Ask an EngineerWhat is the difference between prime and standby power ratings?
A standby rating applies to emergency use for the duration of a utility outage. A prime rating applies to unlimited annual running hours at a variable load. For example, the FG Wilson P250-5 is rated 230 kVA (184 kW) prime and 250 kVA (200 kW) standby at 50 Hz. If the generator will be your main power source, size it on the prime rating.
How do I convert kW to kVA when sizing a generator?
Divide real power (kW) by the power factor — 0.8 for most three-phase diesel generator sets. 184 kW ÷ 0.8 = 230 kVA. Add margin for motor starting currents and future load growth.
Silent diesel generator or open frame generator — which should I choose?
Silent sets use an acoustic, weatherproof canopy and suit hospitals, residential areas, events and outdoor sites. Open frame generators suit plant rooms that already provide ventilation, noise control and weather protection, and they offer easier service access.
What warranty and after-sales support do you provide?
Generator sets carry a 12-month warranty counted from the start-up date. Our team responds to technical and service requests within 24 hours, and we supply Perkins generator parts for scheduled maintenance.
What information do you need for an accurate configuration?
Your load list or required kW/kVA, voltage, frequency (50 Hz or 60 Hz), phase, standby or prime duty, site altitude and ambient temperature, enclosure type, fuel autonomy and whether an automatic transfer switch (ATS) is required.
